Oklahoma City, Okla. — The National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) proudly kicks off the 2025 NRHA Futurity®—returning to the OKC Fairgrounds with a history-making purse, a full slate of world-class reining competition, enhanced fan engagement, and the sport’s most anticipated sale. From elite competition to unique fan experiences, this year’s Futurity promises to deliver the biggest and boldest event in NRHA history.
Record-Setting Purses Across All Levels
The 2025 NRHA Futurity sets a new benchmark for the sport with a total combined purse (Futurity + Futurity Challenge) of $3,900,000, surpassing the previous record by more than $722,000 (+23%).
Additional purse highlights include:
- Futurity Open & Non Pro L1–4 Purse: $3.5M – New All-Time Record
Up nearly $382,000 (+11%) from 2024.
Every level of both the Open and Non Pro L1–4 features a new all-time record. - Open Prime Time: New record of $31,000, up $15,000 from last year.
- Open Levels 1–4 Combined: $2.6M – New All-Time Record, increasing almost $300,000 over 2024.
- Level 4 Open Purse: $1.7M – New All-Time Record, up $154,000 from a year ago.
- Non Pro Levels 1–4 Combined: $900,000 – New All-Time Record, increasing $17,000 from 2024.
The Non Pro Prime Time and Youth Non Pro divisions each hit new all-time purse records. - Inaugural Futurity Challenge: Over $300,000 awarded in its debut year, drawing 600 total entries and expanding opportunities for competitors.
2025 NRHA Markel Futurity Sale: The Sport’s Premier Marketplace
The NRHA Markel Futurity Sale returns December 4 in the Sale Arena at 10 a.m., offering the same high-quality, high-integrity sale experience the industry relies on—now featuring video presentations in place of live horses in the ring. All sale horses remain safely at home, giving buyers added confidence and peace of mind. As in the past, prospective buyers have prior access to conformation photos, videos, radiographs of yearlings and riding horses. As always, bidders may join in person or online at CCI.live, ensuring accessibility for buyers worldwide.
The NRHA Sale Incentive gives premier benefits to horses purchased at the sale: All weanlings, yearlings, and show horses sold during the sale will be eligible for a 50% discount on their entry fees for the NRHA Futurity and/or 6666 NRHA Derby presented by Markel.
With elite prospects, proven bloodlines, and a lineup that spans multiple incentive programs, the Futurity Sale remains one of the most influential auctions in Western performance horse sport.
Run Guess Returns for 2025
Fan-favorite Run Guess is back for 2025! Fans are encouraged to participate during the Non Pro and Open Finals for a chance to test their predictions and join in the excitement of crowning this year’s champions. More details on how to play will be released during the show.
Enhanced Biosecurity Measures for 2025
NRHA, in partnership with the OKC Fairgrounds, has implemented an expanded, facility-wide biosecurity and sanitation plan for the 2025 Futurity. These efforts include multiple passes of full stall cleaning and disinfection using products proven effective against EHV-1, sanitation of wheelbarrows, wash racks, round pens, arena rails, and other high-traffic areas, disinfectant added to drag-water, and enhanced signage and oversight throughout the grounds. The Bennett Event Center will also undergo overnight fogging.
These proactive measures far exceed standard event protocols and are designed to support the safety, health, and confidence of all horses and exhibitors attending the Futurity.
